چکیده

Ingestion of sodium fluoride (NaF, 5 mg/kg/body weight) and/or arsenic trioxide (As2O3, 0.5 mg/kg body weight) for 30 days and possible beneficial effects of calcium phosphate and vitamins C and E supplementation for the next 30 days on some parameters in kidney of adult male mice (Mus musculus) were examined. The combined treatment caused a significant decline in total protein and creatinine and in the activities of acid and alkaline phosphatase (ACP and ALP), which are indicative of altered membrane permeability, disturbed cell functions, and probably tissue damage. These alterations are correlated with the histological changes in the kidney. Withdrawal of NaF + As2O3 treatment, caused insignificant recovery in most of the parameters studied. However, administration of antidotes alone or in combination during the withdrawal period resulted in almost complete recovery, which was more pronounced with the antidotes combined, probably due to their additive or synergistic action. Thus it is possible they could be used for the management of kidney toxicity induced by fluoride and arsenic.

Positive effects of Vitamin C in arsenic trioxide and sodium fluoride induced genotoxicity and oxidative stress in mice in vivo

The aim of the present study was to evaluate Vitamin C (VC) as a potent natural antioxidant to mitigate the genotoxic effects of Arsenic trioxide and sodium fluoride in Swiss albino mice in vivo. The study was divided into eight groups consisting of control treated with normal saline (Group I), Group II, III, IV, V, VI, VII and the VC group with only Vitamin C (500 mg/kgbw). Arsenic trioxide (4...

The Effect of Rebadioside A on Attenuation of Oxidative Stress in ‎Kidney of Mice under Acetaminophen Toxicity

Background: Acetaminophen (APAP) overdose causes renal and hepatic injury. It is ‎also believed that oxidative stress has a pivotal role in APAP-induced renal injury. ‎Therefore, protective effects of different antioxidants have been examined in APAP-‎induced renal and hepatic toxicity models. Stevia rebadiana is a plant with a high ‎degree of natural antioxidant activity in its leaf extract. T...

Phytoremedial effect of Withania somnifera against arsenic-induced testicular toxicity in Charles Foster rats

Objective: The main objective of the current study was to observe the ameliorative effect of Withania somnifera on arsenic-induced testicular toxicity by exploring the crucial parameters such as sperm counts, sperm motility, hormonal assay and lipid peroxidation including histopathology. Materials and Methods: In the present study, arsenic in the form of sodium arsenite was administered orally ...

Beneficial Effects of Some Vitamins and Calcium on Fluoride and Aluminium Toxicity on Gastrocnemius Muscle and Liver of Male Mice

Treatment of male mice (Mus musculus) with sodium fluoride (NaF, 10 mg/kg body weight), alone or in combination with aluminium chloride (AlCl3, 200 mg/kg body weight), was investigated for its effects on gastrocnemius muscle and liver. Recovery after one-month withdrawal of treatment and responses to some antidotes, viz calcium, ascorbic acid, and vitamin E administered alone or in combination ...
